China to create fashion zone near textile university

A fashion industry zone will be set up around Donghua University (DHU), a leading institution imparting textile and fashion related education in China.
The new fashion zone will cover an area of 14.74 sq km on which permission will be given to set up fashion design studios. DHU graduates will be encouraged to establish their own businesses near the campus.
The fashion design businesses set up in the zone would be able to capitalize on DHU's rich talent.
The Shanghai administration decided on the new fashion zone around DHU after a similar plan implemented by it met with success and resulted in creation of a cluster of architectural firms in the vicinity of Tongji Univeristy.
The new fashion zone will also host an international fashion research centre that would be established by DHU in collaboration with leading design academies from across the world.
Located in the downtown area in Shanghai and adjacent to Hongqiao Economic Development Zone, DHU is one of the state-key universities directly under the Ministry of Education of China. It has high reputation both domestically and abroad for disciplines such as Fashion Design and Textile Engineering, among others.
