Tandy Leather Factory Jan sales up 12% to $4.5m

Leather manufacturer Tandy Leather Factory Inc has reported that sales for the month of January were $4.5 million, an increase of 12 percent from $4.1 million last year.
Retail Leathercraft posted a 35 percent sales increase for January, with sales totaling $1.8 million compared to $1.3 million in January 2005. The 42 comparable stores posted an 18 percent same-store sales gain for the month. The 10 stores opened in 2005 added January sales of $218,000.
Wholesale Leathercraft posted sales of $2.59 million for January, up 1 percent over January 2005 sales of $2.56 million. Within the Wholesale Leathercraft division, the wholesale centers' sales gain was 6 percent for the month while the National Account group posted a January sales decline of 24 percent.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Wray Thompson, said, "We have started the year off well with sales gains in the Retail Leathercraft division and wholesale centers well above our internal expectations. The majority of the sales decline in National Accounts was strictly due to a timing issue. We will pick up those sales later in this first quarter."
Tandy Leather Factory Inc, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, is a specialty retailer and wholesale distributor of a broad product line including leather, leatherworking tools, belt buckles and adornments, leather dyes and finishes, saddle and tack hardware, and do-it-yourself kits.
