Footwear marketer R.G. Barry's net sales down $1.4mn for Q1 2005

“We obviously are pleased that our overall quarterly results reflect some of the improvement we had anticipated from our simplified and refocused business model,” said Thomas M. Von Lehman, President and Chief Executive Officer. “Consistent with this positive first quarter performance, we believe that 2005 will be a year in which the financial benefits of the new business model continue to become more apparent. We also think it will be a year of stabilization for the Company. We are focusing on refining our new model and formalizing related processes. We are revitalizing our corporate image and the image of the Dearfoams family of footwear brands, and working to meet or exceed the expectations of our customers and consumers with fresh products and innovative thinking.
“Despite these on-going efforts, annual sales for the full year are projected to be relatively flat against last year as our customers evaluate the impact of our brand revitalization efforts and our overall performance. Due to the continuing highly seasonal nature of our business, we expect that we will report a loss in the second quarter, traditionally our weakest sales period. We do, however, continue to expect to be profitable for the full year in 2005,” Mr. Von Lehman said.
