Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism (MCST) has launched a new ceremonial costume designing competition for the country’s designers at the capital city of Hanoi, in Vietnam.

The attempt of the competition is to seek ceremonial costumes for males and females to be used during national and international events and festivities.

Professional and amateur Vietnamese designers aged 18 and above are eligible to partake in the competition.

The initially shortlisted designs, to be donned by average people, not models, would be presented to the artistic board and the press for opinions.

Subsequently, the best designs would be sent by the Ministry to the Government of Vietnam for approval and would be selected as the costume to be worn at ceremonies and events by men and women.

The designers are required to submit four samples of creations for men and women, two of which should be modern and two having traditional designs, including shoes and headdresses.

While submitting the samples, the designers need to ensure that the creations include a blend of traditional and modern elements and are required to have each design drawn, (hand-drawn or computer-sketched) on an A3 size paper with colors.

The designs have to reflect the cultural identity of Vietnam, appropriate for national and international events as well as rituals, and suitable to the country’s weather conditions, made with domestically produced materials, according to the Ministry.
