Swedish Govt honours two fashion designers

"Sweden's successful in creative areas, including fashion. The cultural and creative industries are growing, and today fashion industry employs more than the steel industry. Fashion has also become a part of the image of Sweden where our country is associated with artistic creation and design of high quality", says Lena Adelsohn Roth.

"This is the first time that the Illis quorum medal is awarded to fashion designers. It's a way to draw attention to fashion's importance as a cultural expression. Margareta van den Bosch and Pär Engsheden have contributed and developed fashion creation in Sweden in their respective fields, she continues.

Margareta van den Bosch gets the medal for a multi-year effort to raise Swedish fashion to international success and to consistently helped to stimulate regrowth of Swedish designers.

Pär Engsheden receive the medal for his skill in design and tailoring helped to develop and maintain quality craftsmanship in fashion creation.

Facts about the Medal Illis Quorum meruere labores Illis quorum Medal was instituted in 1785 and is the oldest government medal. The medal is used to reward the efforts of cultural, scientific and other public purposes. The medal is available in gold and the eighteenth, twelfth, eighth and fifth the size. The inscription means To those whose actions make them deserving of it.

Lena Adelsohn Liljenroth has previously awarded Illis quorum medals to Gunilla Bergström, Jesper Svenbro, Ralph Lundsten, Madeleine Pyk, Gustav Kraitz, Ulla Kraitz, Barbro Lindgren, Rolf Carlsson, Pink Taikon, Marika Wachtmeister and Bernt Rosengren.
