Rent the Runway unveils plus size designer dresses

The company's addition of plus sizes is a direct result of their users requesting designer apparel in larger sizes.

Rent the Runway's introduction of plus size designer dresses comes just short of a year after the launch of its last groundbreaking feature, the one-of-a-kind social shopping platform Our Runway, which features user-generated photos of real women in dresses available for rent.

Our Runway demonstrates the company's belief that all women – regardless of size, age or ethnicity – are beautiful, by prominently displaying these photos of real women on its site as models.

Since the launch of Our Runway, over 100,000 reviews have been written by Rent the Runway customers from all over the United States. Rent the Runway now adds another layer of accessibility by bringing high end designers and the latest fashion trends to plus size women for a fraction of the retail cost.

"When we launched Rent the Runway, we didn't fully understand that our business was going to be about so much more than saving money, but rather, feeling empowered. Designers Badgley Mischka, Carmen Marc Valvo and Theia, among others, created dresses exclusively for Rent the Runway, offering extended sizes of dresses already available for rent in addition to entirely new styles designed with the full-figured woman in mind.

Existing plus size styles from Kay Unger and Adrianna Papell will also be available for rent on the designer dress rental site. The  assortment offers everything from classic little black dresses to sequin and lace to evening gowns.
