Occupying the space on Via Ceresio 9 since 2010, the fashion house collaborated with Milan-based architecture firm Storage to stylishly renovate the fascist-era building.
“Our aim was to return the building to its former glory without altering its architectural charm and presence, but when a visitor enters the doors, be fully enveloped into the Dsquared² world” said Dan and Dean Caten.
Careful to retain existing original architectural elements from the 1930s, the building’s striking façade bears ENEL’s original logo replete with symbols for the elements, further enhanced by strategically placed lighting.
Within the façade is a slate gray entranceway, which seamlessly flows into the completely refigured interior spaces, underscored with Dsquared²’s unmistakable aesthetic.
Sleek and shiny materials such as bronze glass, brass and resin feature in the interior surfaces and elevator. A magnificent 1930s inspired glass and brass chandelier that hangs elegantly from the top floor down to the first floor is placed above the sweeping original marble staircase, which was painstakingly restored.
The rich materials contrast against the natural grain of wood, which clads walls and display cases. An important design code in Dsquared² flagships and product, wood is a reference to the designers’ Canadian origins.
