For the first time in its history of over seven years, the forthcoming edition of Fiji Fashion week (FJFW) will highlight the rapidly growing resortwear industry in the country.

As an answer to the rising demands of resortwear, which has resulted from the nation’s fast growing tourism, the event has scheduled a special resort wear evening in its upcoming calendar.

Slated to be held on May 29, 2014, the evening will feature an array of printed colourful designs from around 16 names such as Sarah Jane, Robert Verebasaga, Mere Shuster, TAV, Robert Kennedy, Mesake Nacola, Leba Koroi, Hupfeld Hoerder, Hanna Hering and Benjamin Schetrit.

Also designers like Christine Evans and Laurice Romeo, Cecelia Peterson Keil, Ashly Daunibau, Aisea Konrote, Ana Rabuka, Ali Zulfikar and Intimate Apparel will feature their resortwear creations at the soiree.

Failepou Peni, the 52-year-old Auckland-born Samoan fashion designer, will present her resortwear collection entitled The Rose, which will include several boldly coloured free flowing fun outfits, at the event.

While commenting on the special night, FJFW managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight stated, “Over 600,000 tourists came to Fiji last year and we need to tap into this market by providing locally-designed and made resort wear for these tourists to take back home.”

In addition to the resort wear dedicated shows, the FJFW, which is slated to take place from May 26 through 31, 2014, will also display ready-to-wear pieces from well-known labels like Samal Singh, Anton Conway Wye and Alex Ligairi and Sonam Sapra along with emerging talents Letila Mitchell, Ami Petero as well as designer duo Randeep and Rachna.
