Fashion industry bigwigs like the French atelier Louis Vuitton and Italian house Prada’s high fashion women’s clothing brand Miu Miu wrapped up the nine-day-long Paris Fashion Week (PFW) with their eclectic Spring/Summer 2015 collections.

Nicolas Ghesquière, the current creative director of Louis Vuitton, offered a futuristic inspired sartorial journey through the eyes of a global traveller. The range’s standouts were devoré velvet made fitted biker-jacketed pantsuits with colourful prints, Parisian subculture Bon Chic Bon Genre style blazers, latticework adorned white tops , vertically ruffled knit pieces, 1950’s cars and 1980’s headphones printed leather skirts, pea coats, sequined tunics and an array of fluid dresses.

Film director John Waters’ 1974 dark comedy Female Trouble played as the muse for Miuccia Prada’s latest hand-woven silk jacquard, antique looking crepe de chine silk, heavy wool and leather crafted catwalk presentation. The featured ensembles were French boudoir style pyjama suits, tiny rounded shouldered tailored jackets, pink and white straight knee-length skirts, ruffled tuxedo cropped tops, pencil skirts and acid-washed upholstery like fabric made oversized outerwear.

Rahul Mishra, the PFW debutante and the first-ever winner of the covetable International Woolmark Prize from India, staged his show titled The Ferryman’s Tale on the final day. Handmade by the rural craftsmen of the Indian state of West Bengal, the intricately embroidered and finely detailed merino wool heavy line drew inspiration from the traditional Japanese artworks and the three centuries-old Indian textiles Chintz. The collection’s major highlights were a zippered white turtleneck jacket, a slim patterned skirt and a semi-sheer disk decorated delicate organza top with 3-D flowers.

Christophe Lemaire, the Besancon-based designer who is stepping down from Hermès’ womenswear creative division to focus on his own namesake label, presented his final collection for the French brand at the event. Based on a mixed palette of both subdued and vibrant shades, the ready-to-wear range included loose-fitted cream coloured tunics, crocodile leather shorts, oversized yellow sweaters, red abstract floral print dresses and wide-legged trousers.
