Textile and fashion Designer Gaurang Shah will unveil his Hindu mythology inspired Spring/Summer 2015 collection ‘Kalpavriksha’ on March 19, 2015 at the upcoming edition of Lakme Fashion Week.

Drawing inspiration from the wish-fulfilling divine tree Kalpavriksha, the range is a balanced amalgamation of heritage heirloom and contemporary designs such as flowy anarkalis, ghaghras and sarees.

The line has been made using traditional Indian fabrics like hand-woven khadi, phulkari, kalamkari, chikankari and jamdani weaves crafted by weavers from Andhra Pradesh and Bangladesh.

“It is yet another presentation of Indian textile innovation by involving my signature technique jamdani, a discontinuous extra weft art that is intricately handcrafted. I am confident that this collection and the presentation settings in the hall will ‘wow’ the audience,” the designer said in a media release.

According to the award winning textile and weave revivalist, the collection is a representation of the tree of life. It is also a perfect tribute to beautiful summer friendly fabrics and ancient mythology. Kalpavriksha branches bore every kind of fruit and flower one wished for, and the apple of the tree was believed to have the virtue of conferring eternal life upon human that tasted it.

A trendsetter of hand-woven sarees, Gaurang operates his hi-end premium label stores in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. (PB)
