Hong Kong-based EcoChic Design Award has announced that the 2015-16 competition cycle is open to fashion designers with less than three years’ professional experience and fashion design students living in any Asian or European country.
The EcoChic Design Award is a sustainable fashion design competition inspiring emerging fashion designers to create mainstream clothing with minimal textile waste.
A total of ten finalists from across the regions will be selected to come to Hong Kong in January 2016 to showcase their minimal waste collections at HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week where career-changing prizes will be awarded, EcoChic Design Award said on its website.
EcoChic Design Award is a sustainable fashion design competition inspiring emerging fashion designers and students to create mainstream clothing with minimal textile waste. Each competition cycle takes designers on an education and design journey lasting several theory and design-packed months.
The company educates designers about the fashion industry’s negative environmental impacts and the sustainable fashion design techniques, zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction that can combat this.
It also provides designers with the tools, via lectures, videos, articles and recommended links, in order to develop their understanding of sustainable fashion design. It challenges them to source textile waste, in its many forms, to enable them to transition towards sustainable design and sourcing. Only then the designers are put to the ultimate test – to cut waste out of fashion – in EcoChic Design Award’s standout sustainable design competition. This puts sustainable design talent in the spotlight and rewards the best with career-changing prizes to change the pattern of fashion, the company said.
The current competition brief is to design a sustainable womenswear collection that will redress the way contemporary, fashion-loving women see their outer and inner reflection. The designs must inspire the designer’s muse to step out into the world confidently wearing her sustainability values stylishly on her sleeve. (SH)
