The ESCADA Group's net debt (interest-bearing debt less cash and equivalents, but not including the non-interest-bearing convertible bond) was EUR 207.6 million at the end of the second quarter, down slightly against the figure from the end of fiscal 2004 (EUR 208.7 million).
The ESCADA Group generated a positive cash flow of EUR 19.7 million in the first half of 2004-05, compared to EUR 15.4 million for the first half of last year. Noncash expenditures of EUR 2.7 million represented deferred taxes included among tax expenses. Allowing for changes in working capital, the cash generated by operating activities was EUR 14.8 million, a rise of EUR 5.7 million against the comparable period. Investing activities used cash of EUR 6.2 million, compared to EUR 8.0 million for the first six months of last year.
Payments of EUR 7.5 million for issue expenses on the interest-bearing bond and the syndicated loan, and repayment of borrowings of EUR 6.0, resulted in a total of EUR 13.5 million in cash used for financing activities (vs. EUR 1.5 million in cash used for the equivalent prior period). Cash and cash equivalents as of April 30, 2005, were reduced by EUR 4.9 million from the beginning of the fiscal year, to EUR 20.8 million.
The ESCADA Group invested EUR 5.9 million in noncurrent assets during the first six months of 2004-05, following EUR 8.0 million for the same period the year before.
