AND THE MAIN EVENT IS... DO KNIT YOURSELF As the privileged observatory on the fashion system, Pitti Filati is the ideal launch pad for the trends of the future. At this edition Pitti Immagine presents Do Knit Yourself, the new program created by designer Nicoletta Morozzi and the Accademia di Belle Arti NABA, in cooperation with the Triennale of Milan.
The spotlights are on the new craze for knitting with men and women of all ages and classes getting together in knit cafés, mainly in the United States and Japan, to give their creativity free rein.
From Kate Moss to Sarah Jessica Parker, and even Russell Crowe, countless celebrities have confessed that they pick up knitting needles to relieve the stress that accumulates on the set or on the catwalk.
Pitti Filati, has scheduled a series of special events that will involve the whole city of Florence: an exhibition at the Fortezza da Basso, featuring projects by the students of the Accademia NABA; the Knit Out, the first national gathering of knitters and the Abito Multiplo, the outfit that will take shape thanks to a collective performance both at the Stazione Leopolda during Vintage Selection the appointment devoted to vintage fashion enthusiasts.
And then, to highlight the importance of this phenomenon that is sweeping through Italy, a group of cafés and style spots in Florence will be transformed into knit-cafés for the occasion, featuring live and group knitting sessions.
In Milan, after last February's opening at the Coffee Design of the Triennale the knit cafés have sprung up all over, embracing city's trendiest life-style places thanks also to the influence of La Pina, dj and opinion-maker whose daily broadcast, Pinocchio on Radio Dee Jay supports the initiative.We can bet that in February knitting will conquer Florence as well!
