Sitting on chewing gum is not what everyone would choose, but a textile teacher at Thurston Community College has designed fabric which ensures the acting headteacher does just that.
Caroline Davidson, who is also an artist, designed a range of fabrics based on marks left on the school building – both natural and man-made.
She said: "They reflect what goes on in school corridors – the underworld of the school. Kids have kissed the wall, to test their lipstick, and there are the normal scuffs and marks.
"The chewing gum, in particular, is about taking something negative and making it positive," she said.
"Not chewing gum is a number one rule, but it is under all the tables. The fabrics make us analyse how we treat each other and our environment," she added.
Chair covers featuring representations of pupils' uniforms have also been made.
