Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management (MIJM), in association with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), will be holding a workshop on the importance of hallmark on gold jewellery on May 22. This step is taken after the decision of Government to make hallmark compulsory.
The institute aims to generate awareness among jewellers, designers and retailers, who are related with jewellery sector as well as to the customers, regarding the importance of BIS hallmarking.
S S Pabla, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Manipal University, Narayanappa, Bangalore BIS Chief and G Jaya Acharya from Udupi Jewellers Association will be the chief guests. The programme will be presided over by Dr G K Prabhu, Manipal University Registrar.
As the prices of gold are constantly increasing, the Government wants to make sure that customers get best quality of gold and are not cheated by the shopkeepers.
