CFDA welcomes 28 new designer members

On July 30, the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Board of Directors ratified the addition of 28 new designers to its membership. They are:
Ron Anderson, Michael Bastian, Andrew Buckler, Sophie Buhai, Rachel Comey, Philip Crangi, Erica Davies, Holly Dunlap, Cheryl Finnegan, Dana Foley, Jenni Kayne, Naeem Khan, Eunice Lee, Fiona Kotur Marin, Lisa Mayock, Malia Mills, Sandra Muller, Thakoon Panichgul, David Rees, Robin Renzi, Brian Reyes, Loree Rodkin, Kara Ross, Anna Corinna Sellinger, Amy Smilovic, Sue Stemp, Scott Sternberg and Araks Yeramyan.
"The diversity of talent in the American fashion industry is evident by the 28 new members who are now part of the CFDA family. The CFDA is proud to count them within our ranks and we are committed to helping them, as we are to all 350 members, be more successful in business,” said Steven Kolb, Executive Director of the CFDA.
"Diane's unanimous election to a second two-year term as CFDA President is a great testament to the leadership she has demonstrated during her first term. In the past two years, the CFDA's membership has increased and the overall visibility of the American fashion industry has risen. New programs and direct benefits for members have been initiated. Diane's enthusiasm for and commitment to the CFDA have been unwavering and I look forward to continuing my support of her efforts on behalf of all designers."
On October 21, Elie Tahari and his wife Rory will host a cocktail party at their Soho home for CFDA members, retailers and editors to welcome the new CFDA inductees.
The new members are:
Ron Anderson and David Rees, formed TENTHOUSANDTHINGS, named for a line of the ancient Chinese philosophy – the I-Ching. The primary focus of this brand has always been to work with the finest natural gems and pearls and develop original techniques to create unique jewelry. In 1997, Anderson and Rees opened their first flagship retail store and production studio in Manhattan.
Michael Bastian, MICHAEL BASTIAN - His five-year-old eponymous line earned a nomination for the 2008 CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year award. In 2007, Bastian was nominated for the Swarovski Award for Meswear, and selected as a finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. He has recently been appointed Creative Director for Menswear at Bill Blass, which he will design in addition to the MICHAEL BASTIAN collection.
Andrew Buckler, BUCKLER - His first year collection was selected for the Victoria and Albert Museum's costume archives. He launched BUCKLER in April of 2001 and now boasts two stores in New York's Soho and Meatpacking districts, and one in London's Spitlefields Market.
