bebe stores announces fiscal Q1 2009 sales

bebe stores inc reported retail sales of $157.3 million for the fiscal quarter ended October 4, 2008, a decrease of 0.7% compared to sales of $158.5 million for the fiscal quarter ended October 6, 2007.

Same store sales for the fiscal quarter ended October 4, 2008 decreased 10.8% compared to a decrease of 9.3% in the prior year.

As of October 4, 2008, average finished goods inventory per square foot was approximately 13.5% lower as compared to the prior year.

Comparable store sales are below our previous guidance of negative high single digit range as a result of continued weakness in the larger macro economic environment which has negatively impacted mall traffic and our results.
