"Shisheer" was the name of Nikasha Tawadey's Spring/Summer 2009 collection at Lakme Fashion Week and it was the "Big Look" that the designer was advocating.
Describing it as free flowing, long and voluminous with dropped shoulder seams and minimum structuring, Nikasha's line was the result of inspirations that were drawn from the late 19th century Bengal artistes.
Using hand woven fabrics like muslin, georgette, chiffon, khadi silk and mulmul in beautiful shades of lavender, terracotta, rose, pebble, grey, moss green, egg, brown, off-white and cream - the designer kept the colour story muted.
Nikasha added detailing and embellishments like chikan Kari, delicate prints, some interesting fabric and button appliqués, silk and cotton embroidery and a hint of glitter with sequins.
Keeping the fluid silhouette intact, there were kaftans, dogri churidars, kurtas, bundis with interesting rouching and pleating.
Nikasha's style innovation was the drawstrings on churidars at the calves as well as at the hemline of the tunics.
The collection was a beauteous line of utterly feminine tunics and tops like the hand woven crème muslin chikan pleated top with matching dongri pans, the chiffon kaftan teamed with rouched churidars.
The dip dye chiffon tunic with satin yoke and very interesting button and sequin embroidery and the ombre shaded georgette and chiffon tunics and kaftans that will surely end up becoming really cool additions for the coming season.
The "Shisheer" collection by Nikasha Tawadey was indeed "The Big Look", which was totally free flowing and ultra comfortable that will keep the wearer stylishly cool during the hot summer days and nights.
