Wolverine to be honored with 10th Consecutive Footwear Industry Award

For 2009, Wolverine continues to solidify its toe-hold as the leading innovator in work footwear by being the first brand to win 10 consecutive Plus Awards for excellence in design. The Michigan-based company will be honored during FFANY, a footwear industry trade show in New York City this week.
“There is no other brand in any award category that has won more than four straight years,” said Greg Dutter, editorial director of Footwear Plus. “Year after year Wolverine delivers on what people demand from their work footwear: durability, performance and comfort. The brand continues to raise the bar by improving its criteria from one year to the next.”
The annual Plus Awards, now in their tenth year, are the only industry accolades as determined by the consensus of retailers. This year Footwear Plus surveyed thousands of footwear retailers nationwide to honor overall design excellence in 22 award categories.
“Being recognized by the industry is an honor that drives us to grow year after year; however, our true motivator is the Wolverine customer who puts trust in our brand and our footwear to work,” said Ted Gedra, president of the Wolverine Footwear Group. “Now, more than ever, retail partners are looking to provide quality, comfortable work footwear at an exceptional value.”
The brand's continued success is driven in part by the success of the Wolverine Contour Welt and the evolution of such an innovative collection. Debuting in 2008, the revolutionary work design set new standards in comfort and flexibility for work footwear. Designed to deliver flexibility in the forefoot and support in the instep areas, the Wolverine Contour Welt construction offers the flexibility of a sport shoe with the durability of a traditional work boot. The contour-stitched arch allows the boot to bend and flex at essential points while a Wolverine MultiSHOX rubber lug outsole provides customized all-day comfort. New additions to this collection include six-inch, eight-inch, kiltie and Wellington styles that feature waterproof linings and Thinsulate insulation.
