The closing date for entries in the enlarged UK Fashion Export Awards 2009 is Tuesday 10 March.

High octane glamour, heritage, footwear and retailer of the year are four of the new categories in this year's expanded UK Fashion Export Awards, which are being relaunched to broaden the opportunity for companies to get involved and also better reflect those products in demand from international buyers.

This year's categories, all of which are open to men's, women's and children's wear companies, are: Accessories; Contemporary (confident interpreters of fashion trends, supplying boutiques and stores); Designer Business (British designer businesses with a worldwide reputation); Directional (Commercial companies at the cutting edge of fashion and design; the fashion innovators); Footwear; Gold (Consistent record of export excellence over at least three years); Heritage (Businesses inspired by British tradition and skills); High Octane Glamour (Brands for special or formal occasions); Lingerie/beachwear; Small Business (Annual turnover less than £500,000) and Retailer of the Year.

Both traditional retailers as well as online sellers are invited to enter the Retailer of the Year category.

Winners will be announced at the Awards lunch on Thursday 4 June 2009 in London. Entry forms can be downloaded from UK Fashion Exports' website ukfashionexports.com.

“The 2009 Awards provide a platform to celebrate the success of those fashion companies that still manage to attract the attention of international buyers looking to inject exciting and innovative designs into their stores despite the economic climate and exchange rate fluctuations,” explains Paul Alger, executive director, UK Fashion Exports, the export division of the British Clothing Industry Association. “As overseas trade exhibitions play such an important role in helping UK fashion exporters make contact with overseas buyers, we are delighted that many of our sponsors are providing stands at key events as prizes.

“Being shortlisted for, or even winning, one of these Awards, is a great boost to company morale and tells the world that the company is a serious world-class exporter.”

Exhibition companies involved are Moda Menswear Birmingham, Prêt à Porter Paris/The Train New York, Mode City Paris & Interfilière and Pure Accessories in London. Other sponsors include HSBC and The Retail Bulletin.

HRH The Princess Royal, President of UK Fashion Exports, will present the Awards, and each finalist will receive a free ticket to the Awards' lunch.
