Following the success of “Fashion for Peace 2008”, and motivated by the ensuing press coverage which helped portray a more positive image of Kenya globally, FAFA - Festival of African Fashion and Arts - is proud to present “Fashion for Peace 2009”, a glamorous event which will bring together some of Africa's top fashion designers.

The sit-down gala dinner and fashion show will take place in a magical tent set-up under the stars in the Nairobi National Park on 25 April 2009. Musical performances will be an integral part of the event.

The objective is to draw attention to the immense creativity and sophistication which exists in Kenya and on the African continent.

FAFA events will include the following:
- Gala Fashion show and sit-down dinner in the park with musical performances

- “Designer Master Class” at the Goethe Institut. Topics include the promotion of African fashion within the global fashion scene, and "Make Trade Fair" in relation to the fashion industry.

Our Objective
The Fashion for Peace event aims to bring talented Africans and individuals who are supportive of the continent together to celebrate the creativity and talent which exists in Africa in the fields of fashion, music and the arts. This is a call for peace and we would like the rest of the world to take notice and join us in viewing Africa in a more positive light.

Shining a light on African Talent
FAFA was set-up in 2008 during the post-election violence which took place in Kenya. Our purpose was to show creativity in the face of destruction by generating positive energy and empowering people from all communities to come together for peace.

As many countries throughout the region continue to know human rights abuse, civil unrest and war, FAFA aims to change perceptions of other communities one mind at a time by exploring and bridging cultures through fashion, art and music.

Fashion for Peace not only raised funds for the “Alternatives to Violence Programme – AVP”, but was created out of a strong philosophical conviction shared by FAFA's founding members, and by the designers and sponsors who showed their support for this cause, that peace is a fundamental and universal need. Only when we have peace can we work towards sustainable development and prosperity.

We as FAFA believe that...
- There is unity in diversity
- Positive change comes when we stop focusing on the negative and encourage the inspiring and the positive.
- Africa deserves to have a light shone on the talent and creative energy which exists on the continent

Fashion for Peace will continue to organise events as a call for peace on the African continent.
