Pearl Academy & Playlife join hands to encourage creativity

Pearl Academy of Fashion, the leading fashion and design institute and Playlife from the Benetton Group jointly organized 'Creative Pearls', an inter-school competition aimed at encouraging design thinking and creativity among students of classes XI & XII in the Delhi & NCR region.

The competition received an overwhelming response from students of 49 prestigious schools of Delhi a few of which are Modern School –Barakhamba Road, Delhi Public School – RK Puram, Delhi Public School – Vasant Kunj, Mater Dei Convent School, Ryan International School – Rohini, Apeejay School – Pitampura, St. Francis De Sales, Salwan Public School – Gurgaon, Mount Carmel School and Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri.

The participating students came up with original creations in various categories like Short film making (Dilli Dekho), Word Games, Best Dress Design (Make-over for Indian politician), Fabric painting on T-Shirt (Changing India as theme) & Light Camera Reaction (Photo feature). The judges were surprised by the level of creativity and innovation exhibited by the students.

In Dilli Dekho category, a short film by Mr Akash Mittal from Delhi Public School- Vasant kunj was adjudged the best. 'Mall Mania-the trend definition for youth' by Ms Sahiba Joon from Modern school – Barakhamba Road won the first prize in Word games. The Best Dress Designing category saw Ms. Arsheen from Sanskriti School – Chanakya Puri bagging the first prize for her breathtaking dress design for the 21st century politician.

In the category of Fabric Painting on T-Shirt, Ms. Apoorva Nayal from DAV Public School- Sreshtha Vihar was at her creative Best and her painting Fabric Canvas based on the theme of Changing India was unanimously awarded by the judges as the Best Fabric Painting. Mr Meet Duggal from New Era Public School – Maya Puri was adjudged the Best Photo Feature for his feature on the theme 'One day in a mall'.

Enthused by the huge response, Pearl Academy of Fashion has decided to make the competition an annual event and also broaden its scope by inviting students from schools from all over the country. According to Mr AKG Nair, Group Director, such competitions can go a long way in inculcating originality and encouraging talented youth to take up careers in design, an area in which India is way behind the developed world.

The winners of the competitions will be felicitated at the Stainless Art Gallery on 2nd of June 2009 where the best entries will be displayed.
