A unique University of Design will be established in Haryana in the national capital region which will offer high quality trans-disciplinary education with a design foundation at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in the creative domains of Fashion, Design, Communication, Art, Architecture, Humanities & Management, the World School of Design (WSD) said in a press release.
The university which will be called the World University of Design (WUD), aims to offer design education through a unique teaching pedagogy, advanced interdisciplinary research and international collaborations in the areas of Architecture, Design, Interior, Textile, Communication, Fashion, Fine Arts, Humanities, Management and many others design related courses. With this objective WUD will, initially, establish schools in the above areas to impart education leading to award of degrees at Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral levels. To lead the project, the university has roped in Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a well known personality in the field of design education and formerly the Dean of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) . Besides setting up many institutions, Dr. Gupta is credited with initiating the postgraduate and doctoral programmes at NIFT, and being party to setting up of entities like the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI).
As a precursor of the proposed university of design, World School of design has started with an offer of 17 specialized programmes from its campus in Rajiv Gandhi Education City. With a commutable distance of Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Delhi, Noida and even Jaipur, the university aims to establish industrial linkages offer design services to industries in these areas, the release said.
