Work has already begun at Preston shopping centre to give it a £7 million Star Trek-style get up.
The renovation of the St George's, Mall will include a new glass lift, new escalators, and a huge new two-storey store.
The purpose of the project is to make way for the new two-storey unit.
The project is being looked after by the centre's new Manager, Ken Williams.
The centre's three entrances in Lune Street, Fishergate, and Friargate will be renovated with new signage.
The Stationery Box has already moved to a new unit near H&M. Textiles Direct is also moving from its current ground floor location as are Ernest Jones, O2 and Ethel Austin.
Julia Horn, newly elected President of the Preston and District Chamber of Trade welcomed the revamp project as it will benefit Preston and the city in turn.
The lift and escalators work will be completed by end of May and the whole project is expected to take around six months to complete.
This is the second Preston shopping centre to get a major face-lift.
Fishergate Shopping Centre nearby is being transformed at a cost of £37million to create a multi-storey car park and more units.
