Women's shoes have always been an object of fascination, not only in reality but also in the world of fantasy.

A study conducted by NPD Group, a retail and consumer information company based in Port Washington, NY, shows that the American women spent almost $17 billion on fashion footwear between October 2004 and October 2005, registering 10 percent growth over 2003.

Jessie Randall, NY -based designer and founder of Loeffler Randall, a shoe and handbag line says that shoes make women feel extremely beautiful and special. This feeling is priceless.

Loeffler Randall's most expensive pair of shoes this season, flat boots made of embossed anaconda leather, were hand cut scale by scale, are pegged at $800.

According to Marshal Cohen, Chief Analyst at The NPD Group, apparel is not the highest priority on a women's list today. There is growing fanaticism towards accessories like shoes and handbags. These items have become the symbols of personal taste, wealth and style.

Cohen estimates that shoes costing $1,000 and up account for less than 1% of total women's fashion footwear sales, but he acknowledges a growing group of women willing to pay more for their shoes now than they ever have been before.
