Aparel retailer Aeropostale reports 44.7% jump in Jan sales

Mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, Aeropostale Inc announced that total net sales for the four-week period ended January 28, 2006 increased 44.7 percent to $61.6 million, compared to $42.6 million for the four-week period ended January 29, 2005.

The company's comparable store sales increased 12.3 percent for the month, versus a comparable store sales increase of 2.5 percent in the year ago period.

For the fourth quarter, total net sales have increased 32.3 percent to $432.9 million, compared to $327.1 million in the year ago quarter.

Fourth quarter comparable store sales increased 10.3 percent, compared to a comparable store sales increase of 1.9 percent last year.

Year-to-date, total net sales increased 24.7 percent to $1.202 billion, compared to $964.2 million in the year-ago period.

Year to date, comparable store sales increased 3.5 percent, compared to an increase of 8.7 percent in the year-ago period.

Julian R Geiger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said that they were very pleased with their results for the month, which reflect the continuation of the strong sales momentum they experienced during the Holiday selling season.

Their inventory levels continue to be on plan and, on a per square foot basis, are slightly below last year.

During the month, they made a smooth transition into their new floor set and the initial customer response totheir spring merchandise assortment has been positive."
