Folimex garment workers go on strike

Folimex Garment Workshop, a division of Saigon Forestation Company in HCM City, witnessed walk off by 400 workers over the issue of non payment of wages owed to them.
They were promised monthly salaries ranging from VND 850.000 –1.500.000 at the time of their recruitment. The same was paid for their first monthly pay, but subsequently, wages were cut according to workers.
Workers also alleged additional working hours beyond the limit stipulated under the labour laws.
When their pay rates were suddenly cut down to VND 200.000 – 300.000 per month, the workers resorted to strike.
They have not been supported by trade unions in spite of being its members and paying their union subscription even as the local labour authorities are reported to have begun an investigation of the case.
