Gokaldas Images to foray into textile business

MUMBAI:
Bangalore-based Gokaldas Images Pvt Ltd, a garment exporter, plans to foray into textile business and boost its denim manufacturing capacity in next fiscal.
The company caters to global fashion brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Gap, Levis, Weil Besancon, Liz Clairborne and Playtex.
"The company is planning to foray into textile as part of backward integration strategy in the next fiscal and will invest substantially. We have aggressive plans in the next fiscal and we are also open to acquisitions in domestic and international markets," said Jagadish Hinduja, Chairman, Gokaldas Images.
Manufacturing capacity expansion is being planned by company in denim and tailored clothing business to become the largest tailored apparel export business in country.
It was among the first few companies in India to introduce concept of retail franchisees with launch of Weekender in 1987 through its associate firm Personality Ltd.
At present, Weekender and its sub-brand Weekender Kids are retailed through two separate franchise chains in 70 exclusive outlets in cities across the country.
Gokaldas Images retail initiative also includes licensed brands from Warner Bros like Harry Potter, Tom & Jerry, Loony Tunes and Mickey & Donld Duck from Disney.
A private equity deal of Rs45 crore with Leverage India Fund, managed by IL&FS Investment Managers Ltd (IIML), was recently concluded by the company.
"The support received from IIML will help us contribute to the post-quota opportunity available to India and increase capacities and broaden infrastructure," adds Hinduja.
