The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will present Limited Brands Inc with a New Partner Gold Achievement Award and a Packaging Reduction Gold Achievement Award for its quick rise to the top as an exemplar for waste reduction initiatives. Limited Brands has reduced its packaging waste, saving virgin materials and money.

A dual award winner, Limited Brands has its priorities straight with its clear commitment to reducing waste. The company quickly became active in WasteWise this past year and is being recognized for its efforts as a new partner. One of Limited Brands' most successful waste reduction activities is its packaging reduction program. In 2004, Limited Brands established new design standards for cardboard boxes used for apparel merchandise, allowing multiple uses from a single box.

This effort prevented 87 tons of cardboard from being discarded as waste and saved the company approximately $215,000 in avoided purchasing costs. In another effort, Limited Brands changed the material used in product return kits from stores and prevented the need for 20,000 pounds of virgin material.

EPA is proud to honor Limited Brands for these extraordinary achievements at the WasteWise 2005 Annual Conference. Limited Brands is one of only nine organizations to receive Gold Achievement Awards at this event.

WasteWise is a free and voluntary partnership program launched by EPA in 1994. The program provides guidance and recognition to more than1,800 participating organizations that are working to find practical methods to reduce municipal solid waste and improve financial performance. EPA is pleased to recognize Limited Brands and other members that have made the program a success through their sustained commitment to waste reduction.

Ohio based Limited Brands, through Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, Express, Express Men's, Limited Stores, White Barn Candle Co and Henri Bendel, presently operates 3,666 specialty stores. Founded in 1963, with one women's apparel store in Columbus, Ohio, Limited Brands has grown into more than 3,800 stores and six retail brands.
