More than 60 percent of the population in Punjab is occupied in farming and this segment is, whether satisfied or not with Captain's replica of development, will play an important role in next year's state election.

Captain told media that state was approaching for investments in sectors such as townships, housing, IT and traditional industries like textile and hosiery.

The investments proposals already agreed are worth Rs60000 crore of which half is earmarked for townships, 40 percent of which is coming in as FDI. The other Rs30000 crore is going to other sectors, out of which around 25 percent is foreign money.

In order to relieve the burden of state farmers, CM is helping to push them to move from food crops to high-value cash crops.

A report revealed from the CM's office puts farmers annual income at Rs7200 crore, while their aggregate debt is Rs24000 crore.
