Maria Grachvogel creates 'Artwork Print' with Lectra

Exclusive to the Maria Grachvogel brand is a unique method of digital printing called 'Artwork Print', created using design solutions by Lectra. Each design is hand painted onscreen by Maria to work in harmony with the garment and the silhouette it creates on the body.
As an homage to the world-famous surrealist Salvadore Dali, Maria Grachvogel was asked to design a oneoff piece by The Dali Universe, London's permanent Salvador Dali exhibition; for one of the most exciting fashion auctions and exhibitions ever witnessed by the capital.
Maria wanted to take the darkness and humour present in Dali's work and thought this would be best represented through her Artwork print:
“The cut and the painting on the dress, especially at the back make the gown almost indistinguishable from the woman wearing it. This dress illustrates the strength of a woman and represents this through the overall feeling of Gaia the Earth Mother. The cut of the dress is reflective of the skeletal form. On the print, the skeleton has been incorporated in to the shape of a tree. The backbone and pelvis actually morph from t ree roots; which seamlessly connect the woman to nature and the body to Mother Earth. The roots of the tree seem to ground her and the ribs wrap around the dress to form a lush, green canopy that mirrors a woman's curves and suggests fertility.” Maria Grachvogel.
The sensational results were unveiled at a star-studded event on 26th November 2008 during which the Maria Grachvogel Dali Gown was auctioned by Eric Knowles of Bonhams; with all proceeds going to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, the flagship charity fashion campaign of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. The Dali Universe will be displaying the Maria Grachvogel Dali gown from the 1st December for the whole of 2009, as part of a worldwide commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the artist's death.
