According to Tian Li Ming, Secretary-General of China Dyestuff Industry Association, China produced 96,000 tons of organic pigments in the first half year of 2007, up 12.6 percent year-on-year. However, this is down 2 percentage points in growth compared to same period last year.
Downstream industry showed low demand for organic pigments. In general, production of most big enterprises increased, while output of SMEs was either flat or slightly declined.
China's exports of organic pigments in the first six months of this year reached 81,000 tons, up 20.6 percent year-on-year, but two percentage points lower in growth rate compared to a year earlier.
Export value registered US $386 million, up 30.5 percent year-on-year and export unit price increased from $4,388 per ton to $4,746 per ton.
Organic pigments are exported to 112 countries including the US, Germany, Belgium, Japan, Netherlands, South Korea, Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia and the UK. Export volume to the top 10 destinations averaged above 3,000 tons each, together accounting for 60 percent of the national total exports, with value amounting to $240 million.
As domestic quality of domestic organic pigment has improved, imports of some products have taken a back seat. Thus, organic pigment imports in the first six months of this year fell to 15,500 tons, down 9.2 percent on year.
Import value scored $103 million, an increase of 4.2 percent. Shanghai, Guangdong and Jiangsu are the main exporter provinces with volume of exports averaging above 10,000 tons each.
