China's textile exports up, but apparel down in Jan-May

Exports of textiles from China shot up by 21.28 per cent to $57.951 billion in January-May 2020, compared to $47.782 billion earned during the same period of last year, according to data from General Administration of Customs.

However, apparel exports fetched $38.213 billion during the same period, showing a decline of 22.83 per cent compared to exports of $49.520 billion achieved during the corresponding period of the previous year.

Total textile and apparel exports during the first five months stood at $96.164 billion, which is slightly less compared to the value of exports during January-May 2019, the data showed.

During the 3-month period from March 1 to May 31, 2020, China exported around 70.6 billion units of masks and 340 million sets of protective clothing.
