Noted economist and vice-chairman of Niti Ayog Arvind Panagariya today marvelled at the scale of the three-day Textiles India 2017 event which concluded this evening, and described it as one of the largest of its kind to be held anywhere in the world, while speaking at the valedictory session of the event at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

Panagariya recollected the 65 memoranda of understanding that had been signed with countries like South Korea, Bangladesh and Russia, among others, while addressing the audience at the session.

Panagariya noted that the Chinese visitors were remarkably impressed with the Textiles India 2017 event, and went on to add that the apparel industry had the huge potential to create jobs. He described these as good jobs, and such jobs could be created in the apparel industry with significantly less investment compared to other industries.

The fair showcased the collaborative efforts of weavers, designers, manufacturers, buyers, exporters and suppliers under one roof. The event saw the participation of visitors from the US, China, the UK, Australia, Germany, Bangladesh, South Korea, the UAE, Vietnam, etc. (KD, SG)
