The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) under the commerce ministry has initiated an investigation into alleged dumping of toluene di-isocynate (TDI) from four regions—the European Union (EU), Saudi Arabia, Chinese Taipei and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)and may impose anti-dumping duty (ADD) on the import of the chemical used in foam making to protect domestic players.

The probe followed a complaint filed by Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd. According to the DGTR notification, the company has requested imposition of ADD on the imports.

TDI is used primarily for flexible foam applications, including furniture, bedding and carpet underlay, and packaging.

If the probe finds that dumping has caused material injury to domestic industry, the directorate would recommend the amount of anti-dumping duty.
