Italy holds talks with Bangladesh to boost economic ties

Italian foreign ministry officials held talks in Rome early this week with Bangladeshi foreign minister Abdul Momen to boost bilateral economic relations, the Italian foreign ministry said in a statement. Several Italian textile firms operate in Bangladesh and Italy hopes that business ties can be intensified, foreign undersecretary Manlio Di Di Stefano said.
Di Stefano acknowledged the positive contribution of the Bangladeshi diaspora to the Italian economy and society, news agency reports cited the official statement as saying.
Italian defence companies are also taking part in competitive tenders for major contracts in Bangladesh, he added.
