A new air freight service has been launched between southwest China and Belgium to meet the growing demands for aviation logistics for China-Europe cross-border e-commerce. The new service will connect Chengdu, the capital of China's Sichuan Province with Brussels in Belgium. The first flight carrying 130 tonnes of cargo had left Chengdu on Monday and reached Brussels on Tuesday.

The all-freighter flight was undertaken by the Belgian International Air Services and carried e-commerce parcels for European customers.

Initially, three flights will fly on the route per week and the number will be gradually increased to six per week, according to Chinese media reports.

The new route is likely to expand the international cargo route network of Chengdu. The Chengdu airport currently has regular air freight services to 15 international cities including London and Amsterdam.
