Ghana Cotton Revival Project initiated by the Government has been praised by the Revenue Protection Information Bureau (RPIB), which has termed it as “timely” and a “blessing” to cotton growers.
The RPIB said the Government's initiative would save the cotton industry in the country from eventual collapse and would revive the 'White Gold' cultivation in the Upper East, Upper West and Northern regions of the country.
The project is expected to provide direct employment to 100,000 people in the agricultural sector.
The RPIB praised the Government's act of dividing the cultivating area into three sectors and giving one area each to a new strategic partner. It hoped that these partners would motivate the cotton growers to increase production.
The Government is considering announcement of a minimum guaranteed price for cotton farmers, and it should encourage them, the RPIB said and asked the government to give maximum support to new strategic partner companies.
