The north-central Nigerian State of Kaduna has sought support from the Federal Government for revival of the textile manufacturing sector in the State.

Patrick Yakowa, Governor of Kaduna, said manufacturing sector is important for creating employment opportunities, increasing income and economic development of the State and the country.

Some textile companies like United Textiles, which are currently operational, were funded by the Board of Investment (BOI), which resulted in generating employment for about 500 people. The Kaduna government now intends to pursue the initiative further to set up more textile industries and to create more employment.

The Governor added that textile industries employed several people in Nigeria, around ten years ago, but may people have lost their jobs during the past few years.

Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Trade and Investment, said the Federal Government is keen on reviving the textile sector, which once used to be an important industry in the past.
