Clothing & footwear register lower prices, Dec 2005

Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia released the Inflation rate for December 2005.

In December prices remained the same
As in the previous years, this year too December did not contribute much to the annual inflation rate. Compared to November, on average consumer prices did not change.

Lower prices of clothing and footwear decreased the total growth of prices
In December lower prices were recorded in the groups clothing and footwear (by 2.8 percent) furnishing, household equipment and maintenance, transport, and restaurants and hotels (by 0.2 percent).

Numerous New Year's discounts were among the main reasons for a strong drop in prices of clothing and footwear, while almost no discounts were registered at car dealers.

On accounts of discounts, prices of clothing were down by 3.2 percent, prices of footwear by 2.4 percent and prices of other articles of clothing and clothing accessories by 1.3 percent.

In addition, in December 2005 prices of games and toys decreased by 5 percent, prices of transport by bus by 3.2 percent and prices of accommodation services in hotels by 2.9 percent.

Lower prices of clothing and footwear contributed 0.2 percentage point to the total fall of prices.

EMU convergence price index unchanged
The growth of prices measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices was again negative (-0.1 percent), but the 12-month average price growth measured with the EMU convergence price index remained at 2.5 percent.
