The ban on cotton exports enforced by India is detrimental to global cotton trade and also disrupts international trade order, said the China Cotton Association (CCA).
In a statement CCA said, “We hope the Indian government will revoke the ban as early as possible and abide by the rules of international trade”.
India had announced a ban on cotton export on March 5, which prohibited cotton exports from the very day.
This is the second time that India has introduced restrictions on cotton export following the ban in 2010, CCA said.
It said this step could make a large number of cotton export contracts signed between India and China invalid.
CCA has also sent a letter to India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry as well as Indian Cotton Association, expressing strong protest against the decision.
The cotton body added, “India frequently bans cotton exports, resulting in undue and huge losses to Chinese textile enterprises, which have signed advance contracts with Indian cotton exporter”.
