The Puducherry unit of CPI-M has urged the state government to quicken its efforts to revamp the Pondicherry Cooperative Spinning Mills, popularly known as SPINCO, located at Thirubuvanai village, 22 km from Puducherry.
V Perumal, Secretary of CPI-M unit said the mill has good capacity for producing yarn.
He said operations are suspended at SPINCO for the past few months owing to lack of proper management of the undertaking.
He informed that the workers at SPINCO have not received their wages for the past two months.
According to an assessment by a high-powered committee, SPINCO had capacity to produce 9,500 kg of yarn a day, Mr. Perumal said.
He added that SPINCO's management did not procure good quality cotton, a major raw material for the mill.
He urged the government to implement effective steps to revive the mill, which would automatically solve all other issues.
