Chinese yarn exports to the ASEAN belt accounted for a stupendous 72.2 percent of overall yarn shipments in 2012.
Although overall Chinese yarn exports fell in the period January to May 2012, those to the ASEAN region surged.
Export volume to the region surged 37 percent from a year earlier to 186,000 tons and value too rose 22.1 percent to US $680 million.
Yarn exports to Hong Kong registered $1.08 billion in January to May, down 13.8 percent year on year.
In the same period, exports to North America achieved significant growth to rise by 8.8 percent from a year ago to $220 million.
However, exports to European Union and Latin America fell 19.5 percent and 19.6 percent, respectively, year on year.
In the month of May alone, shipments to Vietnam and Cambodia skyrocketed by 61.6 percent and 52.8 percent, but exports to Myanmar fell 2.8 percent.
In the same month, exports to Indonesia and Malaysia in May grew 12.8 percent and 44.4 percent respectively.
