The Government of Bulgaria, located in southeastern Europe, has started accepting applications from cotton farmers under the ‘de minimis’ programme.

Under the ‘de minimis’ scheme, the State Fund for Agriculture gives an aid of 580 Bulgarian leva per hectare to the farmers for the purchase of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides for cotton production.

The upper limit for aid under the programme is the Bulgarian lev equivalent of €7500 per farmer for a period of three financial years.

For availing the financial aid, farmers should be registered as agricultural producers with the State Fund.

However, the grant would be given to only those farmers who are not indebted either to the State Fund for Agriculture or to the State Land Fund.

The last date for application under the ‘de minimis’ programme is September 28, 2012, according to the State Fund for Agriculture.
