Textile exports from Pakistan for the first four months of the current fiscal (July-October 2012) have been recorded at US$ 4.393 billion, up 4.78 percent compared to exports of U$ 4.192 billion achieved during the corresponding period of last year, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data showed.

The items that registered positive year-on-year export growth during the review period include, cotton yarn whose exports grew by 36.59 percent, cotton cloth by 7.86 percent, yarn by 48.19 percent, towels by 6.62 percent, readymade garments by 14.59 percent, tents by 38.36 percent and other textile materials by 62.63 percent.

However, raw cotton exports plummeted by 29.05 percent, cotton carded by 92.55 percent, knitwear by 7.11 percent, art silk and synthetic textiles by 19.61 percent, bed wear by 13.40 percent and made-up articles by 1.04 percent, the data showed.

The exports of carpets, rugs and mats, too, declined by 2.71 percent year-on-year during July-October 2012.

Last month, Pakistan’s total textile exports registered US$ 1.21 billion, up 10.5 percent compared to exports of US$ 1.014 billion achieved during same month last year, according to the PBS data.
