Companies buying pay low prices to cotton producers in this country.
This fact has been highlighted by cotton growers of the Chemba district in the central Mozambican province of Sofala.
President Armando Guebuza on Saturday at a rally was appraised as to how marketing companies were offering low prices that were not worth the efforts.
Stating that their efforts were not adequately compensated, a representative of the Chemba cotton growers informed that companies pay only 5,000 meticais (about 20 US cents) per kilo of raw cotton.
Over and above, they are charged for seeds and insecticides which they provide with the onset of the season.
Growers are crying for modern agricultural implements and insecticides and their costs have gone up over the years rendering the profession unremunerative.
Besides, growers also complained of lack of infrastructure like electricity, roads and communication facilities that pointed towards the overall situation of the district.
