Garment and textile export turnover in March reached US $500 million, thus total exports from the industry amounted to US $1.36 billion in the first quarter, showing a year-on-year rise of 40 percent, informs Ministry of Trade.
US, the EU and Japan export markets registered steady increase even as African continent proves potential market for garment and textile products from Vietnam.
US, EU and Germany topped as leading export markets during the first two months this year with cumulative figures standing $431 million, $171 million and $46 million, respectively.
Sources from the Ministry inform that at least $3 billion worth investment is required for development of the sector during 2006-2010 period to ensure the country's key industry withstand competition and emerge victorious in the world as revealed in the sector's master plan till 2015 and Vision 2020.
