Textiles & cotton consumption trend continues

Unprecedented textiles and apparel retail growth has continued to fuel expansion of Argentina's domestic sector.
Argentina textile sector's main component is cotton.
Hence, cotton consumption too, has gone up in relation to textile sales during January and February 2006.
Textiles and apparel retail sales registered a record growth of more than 20 percent during January 2006.
Argentina's capacity utilization in textiles sector went up a record 90.2 percent in February exceeding the high of 2005 at 85.1 percent on the back of demand generated in textile and apparel segments.
According to INDEC, Index of Textile Production (1997=100) the total textile output in February reached 103.5 reaching the highest level since 1997 for the month of February representing a year-on-year growth of 6.3 percent.
The growth in 2005 registered a year-on-year expansion of 9.4 percent.
January 2005 growth registered a 7.0 percent expansion.
