New Textile Technology appoints Graham Stewart as General Manager

Graham Stewart, international textile technology veteran has been appointed to the position of General Manager, Textile Technology for Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI).

In a 33-year career working across Europe, the United Kingdom, North America and Asia, Mr Stewart has worked with leading manufacturers around the world focusing on product development.

AWI Chief Executive Officer Dr Len Stephens welcomed Mr Stewart's appointment and the wealth of commercial textile experience he brings to the company.

"Graham not only brings highly skilled technical expertise but a fantastic global network of commercial textile businesses which will be incredibly valuable in driving new wool product innovations to market and building demand for Australian Merino wool," he said.

"He is well positioned to further build AWI's global and retail-focused textiles research, development and innovation program."

The English-born Mr Stewart began his career in the United Kingdom (UK) with the Brook Group, Europe's largest dyer, and as a divisional director for the textile consumer brand house Dawson International PLC in the UK, Europe and United States.

More recently he has worked for Michell Australia, managing operations in Europe before heading up the company's marketing from Adelaide.

In 2002 Mr Stewart began his own consultancy company based in Hong Kong and has worked for a number of leading international textile businesses including global fashion brands Benetton and Armani, and the multinational Novel Group based in Hong Kong, the world's largest woollen spinner and knitwear producer.

Mr Stewart will begin work with AWI on 6 June 2005.

He replaces Eric Finnie who resigned from AWI earlier this month to return to the UK with his family.

Mr Finnie will continue to provide consultancy services to AWI.
