Handicrafts Exhibition underway in Golestan Palace

Handicrafts exhibition of Golestan Palace in Tehran opened on Wednesday in presence of Esfandyar Rahim Mashayi, President of Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (ICHTO).
The exhibition was earlier scheduled to start its work on May 13, 2006, on the occasion of first day of First International Conference on Tourism and Handicrafts. This exhibition will be opened for public visit during May 13-24.
Handicrafts of great value from different provinces of Iran are being displayed in 50 pavilions.
Some special pavilions have been allocated for displaying posters, catalogues and Compact Disc's on tourism destinations of Iran.
The first International Conference on Tourism and Handicrafts will be held during May 13-15 at the seminar hall of Iranian National Broadcast in Tehran.
The conference is jointly being organized by United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) to discuss role of handicrafts in promoting tourism industry.
Two handicrafts exhibition will be held in conference hall as well.
Oldest of the historic monuments in Tehran, the Golestan Palace (Palace of Flowers) belongs to a group of royal buildings that were once enclosed within the mud-thatched walls of Tehran's Historic Arg (citadel).
